Context

Subletr was born out of a real crisis. In March 2023, a devastating house fire left students scrambling to find housing. This tragedy exposed the fragmented and unreliable nature of student housing resources. Subletr was created to solve this problem by providing college students with data and resources to make better informed off-campus housing arrangements, saving students time and money.

"It's so hard to find a reliable subletter for my apartment."
"I need a place to stay for just one semester, but most listings are for full year."
"I want to make sure I'm not getting scammed when looking for housing."

Objectives

  1. Provide college students with data and resources to make better informed off-campus housing arrangements
  2. Save students time and money by connecting them with verified housing options
  3. Create a safe and reliable platform for student subletting across the country

Problem Statement

How might we develop a comprehensive platform that provides students with reliable housing data and resources while connecting them safely with housing opportunities across the country?

Stakeholders

Students Seeking Housing

Students looking for temporary housing options, including those studying abroad, on co-op, or needing short-term accommodations. These students need reliable, verified housing options with transparent information.

Students with Available Spaces

Students who need to sublet their apartments or rooms due to study abroad, internships, or other temporary circumstances. They need a trusted platform to find reliable subletters.

University Communities

College campuses and student communities that benefit from better housing data and resources to support their students' housing needs.
